At the World Dance Festival Russia 2026, MosFocus magazine’s special correspondent Taya Nova interviewed Valeria Yushina, the official representative of FML Animation and choreographer of team Wolder.
During the interview, the expert shared her professional perspective on judging dance performances. According to Yushina, when evaluating, she pays particular attention to three key aspects: the coherence of the choreography, technical execution, and the artist’s ability to create a character on stage.
The role of costume and props in performances received considerable attention during the conversation. Valeria noted that while these elements are important for creating an image, the quality of the choreography remains paramount. As an example, she cited her own performance that featured a two-meter tree as a prop.
A special place in the interview was given to the question of the nature of dance. Yushina unequivocally defined dance as an art, emphasizing its freedom and creative potential. In her opinion, unlike sports, dance offers limitless opportunities for artistic self-expression.
At the end of the conversation, the expert expressed hope for inspiring performances by the festival participants and wished everyone good luck.
