“Music is my calling”: Interview with composer Alexey Makarov

Alexey Makarov composer interview music creation

During the World Dance Festival Russia 2026, MosFocus magazine’s special correspondent Taya Nova met with renowned composer Alexey Makarov. Their conversation took place in the festive atmosphere of the festival, where Makarov shared his thoughts on creativity and family life.

During the conversation, Makarov discussed his creative process. Special attention was given to the creation of the track “Versace” for his daughter. The composer noted that the process of making music starts with the beat and then the rest of the composition gradually takes shape. According to Makarov, this is the usual work of a sound producer, without any sudden inspiration or revelations in dreams.

A significant part of the interview was devoted to Makarov’s relationship with his artist daughter. The composer spoke with pride about his child’s talents, noting her confidence on stage and lack of fear before the audience. At the same time, Makarov admitted that he takes on all the worries about his daughter’s success, feeling even more anxious than she does.

The interview also touched on the composer’s work plans. Makarov explained that his performance schedule is quite flexible—with spontaneous invitations to perform frequently arising. In April, he has 3–4 performances planned at various venues.

The meeting ended with warm wishes and mutual thanks. Makarov highly praised Taya Nova’s work and wished her creative growth and success in her family life. The correspondent, in turn, noted the professionalism and talent of the composer, highlighting his contribution to the development of contemporary music.
