In our exclusive interview, we delve into her unique journey as a fashion designer, her inspirations, and her aspirations to revive and promote traditional aesthetics in modern fashion.
Q: Dilyara, could you tell us about yourself and your work?
I am Dilyara Prokhorova Russian fashion designer. I am 44 years old and have a beloved family that consists of my husband Artem, my eldest son David, and my youngest son Demid. My family is my biggest support system and loves me deeply.
From childhood, I have had a passion for sewing and creating things with my hands. This passion was inherited from my grandmother, who was a seamstress. My dolls were always the most beautiful, with outfits that stood out from those of my friends’ dolls.
After graduating from a pedagogical college as a physical education teacher, I later pursued an economic degree. Various fields have been part of my career journey, including PAO Transneft, beauty salons, and schools. Accounting studies were also part of my professional development.
While managing my husband’s business, I had a flexible schedule and began embroidering icons with Czech beads. This relates to a family story: my husband dreamed of having another child. While embroidering an icon of Saint Matryona, I mentally asked for her blessing for another baby. Upon finishing this project, I found out I was pregnant with my second son.
Without formal sewing education, every costume and outfit I create is crafted by my hands. Handmade headpieces (kokoshniks, floral crowns, and tiaras) are another specialty of mine, all made from scratch. Through twisting, turning, sewing, and gluing, I create what I confidently label a masterpiece.
Q: How did you first become interested in fashion and creating designer clothing? What was the turning point for you in this choice?
Over three years ago, I met a talented seamstress, and together we found tailors and opened a fashion studio. However, I remained in the shadows and did not sew myself, feeling too inexperienced. While the design ideas were mine, the execution was done by other artisans. I left behind beading and gem-studding concert costumes, which did not bring me joy.
Then came a difficult stage in my life when I lost my father. I fell into apathy, stopped accepting orders, and closed the studio. However, unfulfilled desires and creativity surfaced again. After some time, I created my first outfit for photo sessions in a peasant style. I shared my works on social media and was invited for an interview on Tailor’s Day.
In a short time, I created costumes for a show, invited models, and worked with journalists to showcase the «Krestyanochka» collection featuring linen dresses, floral crowns, and aprons. My muse returned.
Riding this wave, I made an embellished kokoshnik. At first, I was shy to show it and feared criticism, but one day I decided to share a photo online and received overwhelming positive feedback. It turned out that kokoshniks were trending, and many wanted to try on my piece and have their photos taken in it.
Each paragraph now contains fewer than 150 words while maintaining the original meaning and logical flow of the story.
I’ve tried several times to take courses on sewing, but unfortunately, I never completed them. While my classmates were cutting skirts, I had already sold three by the next lesson.
Q: What inspires you to create collections in the Russian style? Are there specific traditions or elements you strive to preserve in your work?
I have always admired Vyacheslav Zaitsev’s collections. Sitting in front of the TV during his shows, I would study every pattern and fabric with awe. His work has always inspired me; I dreamed of creating clothing with Russian motifs. My maiden name is Zaitseva. My father is Russian, and my mother is Tatar. Essentially, I am a mixed heritage, and in my city, I am often referred to as a Russian-Tatar beauty—not without reason! Vyacheslav Zaitsev is a role model for me. I was honored to receive a gold medal from him, and I am extremely proud of that.
Q: What cultural or historical aspects do you consider most important in your work?
– Traditions of Russian Culture: Utilizing elements of folk crafts and materials to help preserve our heritage.
– History of Costume: Researching and drawing inspiration from historical epochs, such as the times of the empresses, which adds depth and significance to my work.
– Symbolism: A focus on symbols and colors that reflect Russian identity and patriotism, creating an emotional connection with my audience.
– Handicraft: Maintaining the uniqueness and authenticity of my creations, emphasizing respect for traditional crafts.
– Modern Interpretations: Combining antique motifs with modern creative solutions to keep my collections relevant and attractive to a broad audience.
These aspects not only help create aesthetically pleasing items but also imbue my pieces with deep meaning and cultural value.
Q: What are your most cherished desires as an artist? Is there a dream you have yet to fulfill?
As Dilyara Prokhorova Russian fashion designer, my dream is to showcase the beauty and richness of Russian culture. I create a unique collection that includes traditional kokoshniks, Russian and Tatar dresses, imperial attire, and crowns. Each item is not just clothing; it symbolizes our history and heritage. I aim to use modern design to make these elements accessible and appealing to young people, instilling in children a love for Russian imagery and culture.
Q: How do you see the role of the modern designer in preserving cultural heritage? Do you have plans to develop your creativity into a thriving business?
The role of the modern designer in preserving cultural heritage is incredibly significant. Creating visually appealing pieces is just one aspect of my work. I also inspire people to take pride in their roots and culture. By adapting traditional elements to modern realities, I help preserve and popularize cultural heritage among new generations.
Developing my creativity into a thriving business is my plan. Market success for my patriotic collection depends on combining creativity with a sound business approach. Financial support is essential for realizing my ideas. With this support, I can create even more unique and beautiful products that not only bring joy but also symbolize our rich culture. I believe that with the right backing, we can achieve a lot and fill the world with beauty.
Q: What do you consider your most prominent and useful quality?
One of my most vivid and useful qualities is my ability to connect with different people. This characteristic allows me to create a warm atmosphere and draw attention to my patriotic collection. I see beauty and individuality in everyone, making my work both creative and social. By fostering dialogue, I inspire people to be a part of my project, strengthening their connection to culture. My ability to attract people to beauty is truly a remarkable trait. It not only helps develop my collection but also creates a community united by shared values and ideas. With this approach, I can achieve great heights in my endeavors!
Q: Do you want to change anything about your life?
Absolutely not. As a Russian fashion designer, I am happy living this life. Being a blessed wife and mother remains the most important aspect for me, while my work as a fashion creator allows me to express my talent. I thank God for giving me this gift to combine family happiness with my passion for designing traditional Russian clothing.

I had the most wonderful and beautiful impressions from the “Alley of Fashion” show. It was delightful how Alla greeted us with such warmth and hospitality. The vibrant red colors in the hall created a special atmosphere that matched my style perfectly. This show was not only a platform for showcasing my collection, but it also opened new horizons, allowing my collection to be featured in an artistic film! This is a completely new and exciting direction that will undoubtedly leave unforgettable impressions.
My gratitude and joy in meeting Alla and what she has brought into my life beautifully demonstrate how vital such moments are for creative growth. I wish Alla success and inspiration for new projects!
