Architecture as a vocation: an interview with Yulia Bortnevskaya

Yulia Bortnevskaya architecture design interview

Taya Nova (MosFocus): Good evening! This is MosFocus magazine. Please tell us who you are and what you do.

Yulia Bortnevskaya: Good evening. My name is Yulia Bortnevskaya. I am an architect and designer in the third generation.

Taya Nova: Tell us more about your career path and achievements.

Yulia Bortnevskaya: I have a fairly extensive portfolio, closely tied to my family. My grandmother and mother participated in the development of the master plan for the Moscow City complex. I remember studying the model of this project when I was just four years old. Now, I am continuing the family tradition by creating my own studio, “Bortnevskaya Design,” where I implement both commercial and private projects.

Taya Nova: What is your motto at work?

Yulia Bortnevskaya: My favorite motto is “Live in beauty.” It best reflects my vision of the world of architecture and design.

Taya Nova: What inspires you in your work?

Yulia Bortnevskaya: Traveling gives me great inspiration. I have visited Australia, Japan, and Singapore — the latter especially impressed me. The more you travel and observe, the more ideas you get for projects.

Taya Nova: What advice would you give to aspiring architects?

Yulia Bortnevskaya: The main thing is not to be afraid and not to be shy. In today’s world, a personal brand is important, so it’s essential to share your experience. That’s why we’re here today at the 11th ADD Awards, to support our talented nominees and celebrate their professionalism.

Taya Nova: Thank you for a fascinating interview!

Yulia Bortnevskaya: It was a pleasure to talk.

This was MosFocus magazine with you.
