Alena: Fashion Is Transformation, Not Repetition

Fashion designer Alena explains why fashion evolves through transformation and how Russian cultural heritage inspires contemporary design.

At Diva International, MosFocus interviewed fashion designer, art historian, and member of the Moscow Union of Designers Alena. She discussed how Russian cultural heritage shapes her collections and explained why she questions the traditional idea that fashion simply repeats itself.

Inspired by Culture

Alena’s collections draw inspiration from Russian ballet, the Diaghilev seasons, artists of the 1960s, and even Siberian punk rock, all reinterpreted through contemporary costume design.

“Fashion doesn’t just move in circles. Forms change, gain new meanings, and transform.”

The Importance of Authenticity

According to Alena, personal style begins with individuality. She encourages everyone to stay true to themselves, ignore unnecessary criticism, and confidently express their own identity.
